Opportunities
We welcomme enthusiastic researchers with backgrounds in physics, chemistry & biochemistry, and in computer science. If you are interested in joining our team, either as a Ph.D. student or as a post-doctoral researcher, please send an email and your CV to Ana Nunes (if your interest is on populations) or Patrícia Faísca (if your interest is on proteins).Specific calls for applications will be announced in this page.
Please check the FCT's
Advanced Fellowships and Grants funding schemes.
Post-doctoral fellowship, Computational Biology (CLOSED)
A postdoctoral position funded by FCT will be available from the 1st of September 2011 for 12 months renewable up to 36 months, to work in parallel simulations on the propagation of infectious diseases with Dr Andrea Parisi. The research activity will focus on the study of disease spread in geographically detailed populations, in particular on the study of stochastic effects due to finiteness of populations as well as co-evolution of viral strains (flu) in a global (world-wide) setting. The successful candidate will be part of the Physics of Biological Systems group (http://physbio.cii.fc.ul.pt/PBS/), which is hosted by the Centre for Condensed Matter Physics of the University of Lisbon. Applicants should have a PhD degree in physics, mathematics or informatics, and experience in simulations.
To apply please send a detailed CV, motivation letter and name and email of two references by email to: Dr. Andrea Parisi: andreaparisi.physics@gmail.com or parisia@ptmat.fc.ul.pt
or by post to:

Centro de Fisica da Materia Condensada da Universidade de Lisboa Instituto para a Investigação Interdisciplinar UL Av. Prof. Gama Pinto 2 1649-003 Lisboa Portugal
The application will be open until the 1st of July 2011
The selected candidate will be notified by email. We expect to be able to inform about the result within the 6th of July.
Informal inquiries are welcome and should be addressed by email to Dr. Andrea Parisi.
Post-doctoral fellowship, Computational Biophysics (PF1-2011) (CLOSED)
A postdoctoral position will be available from September 1 2011 for a period of 24 months, to work in simulations of protein folding with Dr. Patricia Faisca and members of her group. The successful candidate will explore fundamental aspects of protein folding with a plethora of computational methods ranging from lattice Monte Carlo simulations to atomistic off-lattice models explored with molecular dynamics simulations. This research is part of on-going collaborations of P. Faísca with Harvard University, Universidad Complutense de Madrid and Warwick University. The successful candidate will be part of the Physics of Biological Systems group (http://physbio.cii.fc.ul.pt/PBS ), which is hosted by the Centre for Condensed Matter Physics of the University of Lisbon. Applicants should have a PhD degree in physics or biophysics, physical or theoretical chemistry and closely related areas, and experience in molecular simulations.
